There's no denying that brothers Gene and Cody Bare own a trike so dangerous, so crazy, so insane and so ingenious that it won the prestigious 2003 Lowrider Trike of the Year trophy. There's no doubt that the elder Gene Bare (their dad) went a little mental for his two sons Gene (eight) and Cody (nine) with this three-headed and three-wheeled mega-monster. "I got the idea from a model of a dragon motorcycle," says the self-employed painter and customizer. "I got a mental picture of what I wanted and I just started building it for my kids." Pretty much everything on "Dragon's Revenge" is handmade, which resulted in a wild, winged and chromed-out metal beast.
Man, where do we start? This trike is vicious from the front wheel all of the way to the tail. Dragon's Revenge is wickedly customized and candy colorful, too. The rims are cut-out designs with dual disc brakes covered by a multi-candied flamed fender. Other mind wreckers include the flamed and engraved fork system, gold-plated hydraulic cylinders, spring-loaded handlebars and dragon engraved windscreen. Your eyes could get crossed at any moment looking at this ride that's worth mega-bucks. Another custom detail is the metal green ears extended over the handlebars and twisted steering wheel. We're sure that when competitors see the likes of this pedal pusher, they might ask, "How can I compete?" Just maybe that was the idea in this class.
The time that it took to build this behemoth was around three years total. Like a top secret jet, the eldest Gene dreamt up crushed velvet seating, more chrome twists, rainbow-reflective fabric and individually cut mirrors all in their garage, knowing the whole time that something was breathing hard to get out and literally eat the competition alive. The question is, can anyone beat three molded dragon heads with airbrushed artwork by Chavo (based in Arizona), elevated swivel seat and heavy-duty hydraulic system worth more scoring points on the show circuit? Are you brave enough to go on? You might want to grab a shiny sword.
Priceless is the word that Gene uses to describe the three-headed trike outfitted with a motorized Go-Ped motor, and for as much as we've seen in our days of covering sinister rides, he's on the right track. Papco Plating in Phoenix, Arizona, dipped, dunked and polished the parts so that the dragon can blind you while it destroys the world of lowriding tricycles and makes history.
