Ventura Hobbies

Where cars aren't the only things roaring.

Let us paint a picture for you. Ventura Hobbies in Ventura, California, hosted their 16th Annual Modelfest 2004 featuring model cars, airplanes, military armor and action figures at Seaside Park in the Ventura County Fairgrounds, and they invited their closest friends. This indoor event was the bomb! And we're not just saying that because they had airplanes competing.

If you thought that cars were all the rage, well, in our minds they are. You should have visualized the dreamy fantasy figures, war scene dioramas and perfectly replicated (with dust too) garages because they are an appealing and highly creative scene. But wait, we're not here to capitalize on the movie monsters, tanks and other table-top trends, but instead zero in on the lowrider model cars and there was a handy handful to capture in digital format.

The big guy winning all of the awards for the day was "boy-in-the-hood" Jay Holt with a hardcore metalized Monogram '87 Chevy Monte Carlo Luxury Sport, Revell '64 Chevy Impala with money floatin' in it, a rare (not a kit) '37 four-door. Jay took First Place in the Lowrider category. Basically said, Custom Builders were the winning club in the Lowrider class.

Thinking of a cool model to build while glued to your computer? Well, the man with the plan, Vern Morseman, can be reached on the superhighway of information at www. venturahobbies.com or in his ear at (805) 658-8138. Call him, he'll be glad to hook you up.
